Developing characters, conceiving worlds, creating good dialogue, designing a clever plot and in general thinking up good stories are my greatest passions.
I am attracted by unusual, bold and even provocative subjects, which have not yet found their way onto screen.

This does not mean that my stories and screenplays are only something for art house fans. Quite the opposite: I like grand stories that entertain. But I don’t like films where the audience feel they are being condescended to. I like to entertain stylishly and cleverly. I like to tell stories that have symbolic power, generate fantastic pictures, innovate and entertain a mainstream audience.

To achieve all of this, and make sure my screenplays are filmed exactly as I wish, I usually direct them myself in partnership with my friend and colleague Helge Balzer The authenticity and credibility of the worlds I create is very important to me.
But directing and writing do not always have to go together. I can write without directing and direct without writing.
